Furla Series #04
Le carte delle donne
New scenarios of the history of gender, from art to archives and public history
Speakers: Vittore Armanni (Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli), Daniela Bellettati (Unione Femminile Nazionale), Barbara Bracco (Fondazione Kuliscioff)
Moderator: Maria Canella (Università degli Studi di Milano)
Archive materials have always played a central role in Andrea Bowers’s practice: not only do they become sources from which she draws inspiration for her work, but they are sometimes put on display alongside the artist’s own works, as in the case of Moving in Space without Asking Permission. The encounter “Le carte delle donne” (The Women’s Papers) is designed to explore the historical perspective found within the exhibition, in the form of documents and testimonies provided by the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, the Fondazione Kuliscioff, and the Unione Femminile Nazionale. Through the words of exponents from the three institutions, the new scenarios occupied by gender history will be explored, as it has revolutionized both language and objectives thanks to the fusion of art, archives, and public history. Once again, women’s history demonstrates its ability to renew its outlook by getting to grips with the present and the future without forgetting its past.
