La macchina del tempo – Time machine
Guided tour for primary school parties: exhibition + Gallery – duration: 90 min

An illustrious villa with valuable antique collections hosts a constellation of new works, most of which have been created especially for the occasion by artist Kelly Akashi. Her works reflect the past around them, interpreting it, bringing it into the present and projecting it into the future. Upon entering the rooms of the GAM, we thus set out on a journey through time and space. Thanks to the use of a tactile kit, we explore the works on show through all our senses, embarking on an exploration of the various materials employed by the artist. We complete this journey by making tableaux vivants with our own bodies, interpreting the works of both ancient art and that of Akashi, thus making them part of our present.

Cogli l’attimo – Seize the moment

Kelly Akashi’s career began in photography. The exhibition path, which merges very distant temporal planes into a single spatial unicum, challenges us to ‘seize the moment’, identifying the points of contact, the ‘portals’ that connect the past to the present and the ancient to the contemporary. Students are stimulated to actively interpret the works (subjects, materials and techniques), paying particular attention to the links between Akashi’s works and those in the GAM’s permanent collection with which they interface. At each stage, small groups of students take shots with a smartphone of details they consider particularly meaningful in terms of documenting elements they deem important. Finally, each group outlines a short film with the aim of telling others – through their images – about the emotions felt during the visit.
